Bronchoscopy
What is a bronchoscopy?
Bronchoscopy is a medical examination procedure in which an endoscope is inserted through the mouth or nose and advanced through the windpipe into the lungs. Bronchoscopies are used for diagnostics, e.g. for tissue extraction but also used as a therapeutic method.
If this is combined with a sonographic, i.e. an ultrasound examination, one speaks of endosonography, more precisely of endobronchial ultrasound. Tissue can be removed using fine needle systems.
